What is Switch Player?
Switch Player is an independent enthusiast publication dedicated to the Nintendo Switch. Founded in 2016, the Switch Player team have released THIRTY issues of a PRINT Nintendo Switch magazine, with a new one released every month. As well as the magazine, the Switch Player also operates this website.
Our vision is to be the best resource available for Nintendo Switch content; specifically reviews and to build and foster a community around the device. To do that, we will need to best writers around to contribute and that’s where we hope YOU will come in!
- Switch Player Creative Editor
Do you love Nintendo, and more specifically, the Nintendo Switch? Do you love writing about games? Do you write for someone else and simply want to enhance your online coverage? Do you like to write your own reviews on your experiences with games? Have you ever wanted to write for a Nintendo magazine? Are you very creative, with knowledge and experience with design? If any or all of these statements apply to you then this could be the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your ability. We are looking for someone who is truly incredible and will help take us on to the next level.
As Creative Editor, your role would be helping to improve the quality of the magazine, specifically. That’s writing features relevant to particular Switch topics, timely turnover of reviews, suggesting improvements to the style and look to the magazine and help it evolve into an accomplished and polished publication. We are looking for somebody exceptional with an eye for creative flair, someone that lives and breathes – and bleeds – Nintendo!
We’re after someone passionate and dedicated; someone who thrives on working from their own direction. We’re after someone who takes great pride in the quality of their work and perhaps even someone who has designs/dreams of being in the industry. We are also after someone that can adhere to a strict deadline and turn a review or feature around efficiently.
We are just a fan-driven enthusiast website and as such there are limited funds; and we cannot guarantee specific game codes. You will be have an opportunity to obtain available review codes along with the core Switch Player team. You will also be sent a hard copy of each magazine we release with you as part of the core team. It’s not a job, but any published reviews will also see you recieve $3 (USD) each. We do pay for features, though, that end up in the magazine, and more on that will be explained as and when you send a pitch.
Are you interested? You must:
- Be passionate, proud and hard working
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Be enthusiastic and efficient
- Have good knowledge of the Nintendo Switch
- Have excellent communication skills
- Be able to embrace criticism to improve
- Think outside the box
- Ideas and knowledge related to magazine design
There is no age limit, and anyone is eligible to apply. You may need to create a My Nintendo account for a different region to your own, but this is very easy to do for the Switch and FREE! Alternatively if the above is a little too intense for you, we are also looking to add some new reviewers to our already incredible team, with a focus on solely covering games as opposed to features. If his is more suited to you, then that’s totally fine too!
Once again, we thank you for reading this and look forward to finding someone special to add to the team.
If you are interested in the above position please get in touch with us via the contact form on the website, stating which position you are applying for.
Information to consider when applying should include (but not be limited to) Your Nintendo history, your Switch experience, what you think you could bring to the team, which game genres you enjoy and so on. Examples of your previous work will also be helpful. A little bit of why you are the best candidate for the role will also help! We are also looking for constructive critique on Switch Player itself. Editorial applications which do not have any feedback on the magazine or how we could improve will NOT be considered.
As part of this process we will also need an 570 word review so that we can see the quality of your work, written in the style of a Switch Player review. We will explain more on this after your initial contact.
Good Luck, and we look forward to seeing your application!
