The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wins Its First Major GOTY Award

Was there really any doubt..?

Nintendo’s masterpiece The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has scooped the Ultimate Game of the Year award at this year’s Golden Joystick Awards. It beats out some stiff competition from the likes of Persona 5, Horizon: Zero Dawn and – perhaps most importantly – Super Mario Odyssey.

As if that wasn’t enough, Breath of the Wild also picked up three more awards for Best Audio, Nintendo Game of the Year and the Critics’ Choice Award. The studio behind the game – Nintendo EPD – also picked up the Studio of the Year award for their efforts on both Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.

We’ve no doubt that Breath of the Wild will pick up many more awards before the year is out, capping off a wonderful period for the Nintendo Switch. The team behind the game has released a brief video in response, which you can view below.
