Expansion pass announced for BOTW

Additional quests and content announced for Link’s latest adventure.

In just over two weeks, the latest and most vast of all the Zelda titles will be in our hands, but if the promise of more content then ever doesn’t whet your appetite, then perhaps the news that even more content will arrive in Breath of the Wild may, as Nintendo have today announced the first ever DLC for a mainline Zelda title, available through the Expansion Pass.

Obtainable from March 3rd for £17.99 (or €20/$20) this pass will initially grant you access to three new treasure chests in the Great Plateaux, one of which contains an EXCLUSIVE Nintendo Switch Tee for Link to wear on his adventure, the real meat and potatoes of the pass will be two additional quests which will become available later in the year.

The first of these will arrive in the Summer and will add a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode as well as a new feature for the game’s map.

The second pack will arrive in time for the “Holiday” season and adds in new challenges for the title as well as the promise of a new dungeon and a new original story. This additional content will NOT be available separately; you’ll have to purchase the Expansion Pass to enjoy everything.

What do you make of the news? Will this provide you new ways to enjoy the game, long after you’ve finished exploring Hyrule? Have Nintendo finally caught on to common practices which are prevalent within the industry? Whatever your thoughts, let us know in the comments! Me, I can’t wait to rock around, saving the day in that slightly out of place Switch shirt!
