Cave Story+ Coming to Switch on June 20th

EU release confirmed for Binding of Isaac: Afterbith+ too.

Have you heard of Cave Story? Originally developed by Studio Pixel and released in 2004 it was one of the earlier “Metroidvania” indie games, Cave Story is a platform/adventure game and indie developer Nicalis are bringing it right up to date on the Nintendo Switch with a definitive “+” release of the game like they have for Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+.

The Switch release will release in North America on June 20th for $29.99 in stores and comes with new challenges, options and enhancements. Switch owners will also get more levels and graphical improvements, future content upgrades for free and a few bonuses that Nicalis will reveal in the future.

Our press release says: “With its striking blend of platforming action, shooting and exploration, Cave Story+ offers plenty of “twitch” for the Switch. But storytelling is a huge contributing factor to its international success. Through a series of brief and often emotional conversations with various characters, players gradually learn the tragic history of the game’s cast as well as its amnesiac adventurer, whose athletic ability and weapon skills are much more advanced than his appearance would suggest.”

That’s not all the Nicalis-related news we have though, today it was announced that those living on European shores that wanted Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ (and didn’t import) will have a way to get the game thanks to a team-up with Headup Games!

“Nicalis and us are teaming up to bring The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ to European and Australian retail for Nintendo Switch.

But this is not the only good news. To put it in the words of Casablanca: “Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” Stay tuned for more news on this strategic partnership, going way beyond just the release of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, with more details to follow at a later stage.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ will come to retail for Nintendo Switch in the second quarter of 2017 with a suggested retail price of €39.99.”

What do you make of that, Switch fans? Are you going to grab your copy? What will this mean for a possible EU/AUS release of Cave Story+? We will bring you more news as it happens!
